Event Store At QCon London 2024
Last week, the Event Store team attended QCon London, one of the largest international software development conferences. Here's our round up of the event!
This year's event at The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London focused on themes covering Architecture Through Different Lenses, Platforms, People & Processes, Emerging Trends in the Frontend & Mobile Development, Securing Modern Software and The Tech of Fintech; with talks from Spotify, Trainline, BBC, Gitlab, Microsoft and Google to name a few.
Businesses Are Losing Data!
Event Store's Developer Advocate, Stephen Tung, joined this line up with his talk on Event Sourcing with EventStoreDB entitled 'You Capture Only 1% of Business Data. Unlock the rest with EventStoreDB'.
Stephen's talk highlighted how businesses are losing valuable data by only storing the current state and losing the wealth of information hidden in the historical changes that data undergoes. It covered:
- The differences between the current state and historical events.
- Why traditional systems focus on the current state and capture only 1% of business data.
- How event sourcing and historical events enable you to capture the remaining 99%.
- The "superpowers" you'll gain by capturing the full picture.
- EventStoreDB's fit in the technology landscape.
- Common strategies for using EventStoreDB.
- Examples of popular and impactful use cases.
- When to use and when not to use EventStoreDB.
A big thank you to all who joined us for the session! But if you missed it fear not, we'll be running a webinar based on Stephen's insightful talk soon. Follow us on LinkedIn, X or sign up to our newsletter (see footer) for updates.
The Event Store Booth
Giant maps of Europe, a Steam Deck, and socks featuring a green dragon called Ouro!
These are just some of the things you’d have found if you visited the Event Store Booth. We had a very busy few days with lots of you coming to talk to us about EventStoreDB and how it can help your event-sourced application. On hand to chat across all three days were:
-
Stephen Tung, Developer Advocate
-
David Pinto, Senior Sales Engineer
- Paolo Castagna, Enterprise Account Executive
-
Natasha Waldron, Senior Marketing Manager
-
Ignacio Gomez, Enterprise Account Executive
As well as learning about EventStoreDB, many of you also interacted with some of the fun stuff we had going on at our booth!
Our Giant Map!
It was hard to miss our impressive map of Europe. Lots of you pinned your locations giving us a great sense of how far and wide attendees had travelled.
Of course we love data, and couldn't resist putting together this pie chart of where people had come from, with attendees from various corners of Europe forming significant clusters from the UK, France, and Norway.
Since our map exclusively featured Europe, we welcomed attendees from other continents with world flags. Tel Aviv, the USA, and Australia were just a few of the locations proudly pinned.
This interactive display not only showcased the diverse origins of QCon participants but also fostered connections with individuals from across the globe.
Our Competition To Win A Steam Deck
We had a great prize up for grabs this year of a brand new Steam Deck. Thank you to everyone that entered and huge congrats to our winner Javier, pictured below with Event Store's Natasha Waldron.
Get Your Swag On
Attendees and exhibitors alike couldn't resist the allure of the Ouro socks, stickers, and pin badges at our booth. They were a hit, with all 360 pairs of socks flying off the shelves by the end of the conference.
Event Store Meet-Up
We hosted a meet-up for QCon attendees at the Blue Boar Pub on April 9th. It was wonderful to see both familiar faces and new friends joining us for an evening of drinks, delicious nibbles, and engaging conversations. Thank you to everyone who made the night special!
It was a fantastic conference, and great to meet so many of you at our booth.
A special thank you to the conference organizers for putting together yet another amazing event! We're excited to announce that we'll be at QCon San Francisco, so we look forward to connecting with you there as well!
